Non ho letto questa plaquette, ma riproduco di seguito il commento al suo contenuto di Erasmushaus, Svizzera, che si legge nel catalogo di giugno 2026:
“The title page claims it was originally published in Madrid by Antonio Sanz, however no known copy of that edition exists, and it is most likely a ghost. The letter, sent from Portugal to a gentleman in Madrid, gives an account of two comets that appeared on the borders of that kingdom, together with the illustrations printed in this report. It describes a series of extraordinary celestial apparitions observed over several nights between late June and early July, following a violent storm. Witnesses reported fiery circles, brilliant stars, and serpent-like forms moving across the night sky, interpreted as divine signs or omens. The “learned men” of the kingdom believed these apparitions foretold favorable developments for Christendom, though they also caused widespread fear and prompted public prayers and acts of repentance. The account is typical of seventeenth-century wonder literature, blending astronomical observation with religious and prophetic interpretation".
